Sometimes you just need a little check in between appointments for reassurance and peace of mind

Single Private Antenatal Appointment at Home

Sometimes you don’t need a full private midwifery package, you simply need a little more time, reassurance or the opportunity to talk things through with an experienced midwife.

I offer single private antenatal appointments at home across London, Essex and Hertfordshire, giving you dedicated time to focus on you, your pregnancy and the things that matter to you.

You may want an additional antenatal check between your usual appointments, have questions about your pregnancy, want to discuss scan or blood test results, need help preparing for birth, or simply feel that you would benefit from an appointment where you have plenty of time to talk.

You don’t need to be an existing Guided By You client, and you can continue with your usual NHS maternity care alongside your appointment.

What Happens During a Private Antenatal Appointment?

Your appointment is tailored to you and what you need on the day.

A full antenatal check wil include your blood pressure, urine testing, measuring your baby’s growth and listening to your baby’s heartbeat, alongside time to discuss your physical and emotional wellbeing.

But your appointment is about much more than completing clinical checks.

You’ll have time to ask questions, talk through any concerns and understand your options without feeling rushed.

Reasons You Might Book a Single Antenatal Appointment

There are many reasons you might want some additional midwifery support during pregnancy.

An Additional Antenatal Check

You may simply want an additional antenatal appointment between your usual NHS appointments.

Perhaps you would like some extra reassurance, have questions that have come up since your last appointment or would value having more time to talk about how you are feeling.

A single private appointment can complement your usual antenatal care without replacing it.

Discussing Scan or Blood Test Results

Sometimes you receive a result but leave an appointment with more questions than answers.

We can use your appointment to discuss the information you have been given, what it means for you and any questions you may want to take back to your maternity team.

If something requires further medical assessment, investigation or referral, I will always advise you appropriately.

Birth Planning and Birth Preferences

You might already have a clear idea about how you would like your birth to look, or you might have no idea where to begin. Both are completely fine.

We can use your appointment to explore your birth preferences, discuss your options and think about what matters most to you.

This can be particularly helpful as you approach the later stages of pregnancy, if your circumstances have changed, if you are considering different places of birth or if you simply want more time to understand the choices available to you.

Preparing for Labour

As your birth gets closer, it is completely normal for new questions to appear.

We can talk through the signs of labour, when to contact your maternity team, pain-relief options, preparing your birth environment, what your birth partner can do to support you and any worries you may have about labour or birth.

The aim isn’t to tell you how you should give birth. It is to help you feel informed, prepared and supported in the decisions that are right for you.

Pregnancy Fit-to-Fly Letter

If you are planning to travel during pregnancy, your airline may ask you to provide documentation relating to your pregnancy before you fly.

Where appropriate, a fit-to-fly letter may be available following a private antenatal appointment and assessment.

Airlines have different requirements regarding pregnancy and travel, so please check your individual airline’s requirements before booking your appointment and let me know exactly what documentation they have requested.

MATB1 Maternity Certificate

If you require a MATB1 maternity certificate, this may also be available where the relevant eligibility and timing requirements are met.

Please let me know when booking if obtaining your MATB1 is one of the reasons for your appointment.

Do I Have to Be an Existing Guided By You Client?

No.

You do not need to be receiving ongoing private midwifery care with me to book a single antenatal appointment.

You may be receiving all of your maternity care through the NHS and simply want some additional time, support or reassurance alongside it.

If you later decide you would like more regular support, you can explore my private antenatal care or continuity of care options, but there is absolutely no obligation to do so.

How Much Is a Single Private Antenatal Appointment?

A single antenatal home visit is £195 and usually lasts 1–2 hours.

Your appointment takes place in the comfort of your own home, giving us time and privacy to focus on you, your pregnancy and your questions.

Where Are Private Antenatal Appointments Available?

I provide single private antenatal appointments at home across London, Essex and Hertfordshire.

I am based in Waltham Abbey, Essex, and travel to families throughout the areas I cover.

If you are unsure whether I can travel to you, please get in touch and I can confirm availability for your location.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I book a private antenatal appointment if I already have an NHS midwife?

Yes. A private antenatal appointment can complement your NHS maternity care rather than replace it. You can continue attending your usual NHS appointments, scans and hospital care.

Can I really book just one appointment?

Yes. There is no requirement to book a full private midwifery package. You can book a single appointment whenever you feel you would benefit from some additional midwifery support.

How long does the appointment last?

Single antenatal home appointments usually last between one and two hours, giving us plenty of time for your antenatal assessment and your questions.

Can my partner attend?

Absolutely. Your partner or another person supporting you is very welcome to be there, particularly if you would like to use some of the appointment for birth planning or preparing for labour together.

Can you provide a pregnancy fit-to-fly letter?

Where appropriate following assessment, a fit-to-fly letter may be available. Please check your airline’s individual requirements before your appointment and let me know what documentation they have requested.

Can you provide my MATB1?

A MATB1 may be available where the relevant eligibility and timing requirements are met. Please mention this when you enquire so we can discuss your individual circumstances.

What happens if you find something concerning during my appointment?

Your safety and your baby’s wellbeing always come first.

If anything during your assessment requires further investigation or medical review, I will explain this to you and recommend or arrange appropriate referral to NHS maternity or medical services.
