Antenatal and Postnatal Care Without Birth Attendance: Is This Right For You?

Private midwifery care doesn't have to mean an all-or-nothing package. While many families choose full continuity of care, including birth attendance, that's not the only way to work with me, particularly if you're planning a hospital birth and want antenatal and postnatal care without birth attendance.

What this option includes

This package covers thorough antenatal care and postnatal care, without me attending the hospital birth itself. During pregnancy, we'll cover everything you'd expect from full continuity of care: birth planning, hypnobirthing or relaxation techniques, perineal massage guidance, colostrum harvesting discussions, hospital bag preparation, antenatal education, safe sleeping and SIDS guidance, and plenty of hands-on, practical support to help you feel genuinely prepared, alongside working through your options and preferences together in detail. I'll carry out a full antenatal check at every appointment, so your health and your baby's are properly monitored throughout.

You can start this package at any point in pregnancy, from as early as 6 weeks right through to 36 weeks, whether you want ongoing support throughout, or simply want focused help with birth planning nearer the end. When your baby arrives, your birth itself is supported by your hospital's own midwifery team. Once you're home, I pick care back up with postnatal visits lasting four to six weeks, covering recovery checks, feeding support, emotional wellbeing, and guidance through those early weeks, including a full postnatal check at every visit.

For others, it suits their circumstances better, perhaps they feel confident with their hospital team on the day, or simply prefer this structure.

Is continuity still part of this?

Yes, in every way that matters before and after birth. I'll see you at every appointment throughout your pregnancy, and pick your care back up once you're home, continuing that same continuity of care with me throughout. The only difference is who's physically present for the hospital birth itself.
